The Light of Truth

As mothers, it is sometimes difficult to distinguish if our child truely has a sore throat or simply doesn't want to go to school. The first thing we do is feel their foreheads for a sign of fever. The second thing we do is to reach for the flashlight to take a look inside. What is revealed determines their outcome for that day.
1 John 1:5-9 says, "This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light, in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives".
Thinking back, as a child, I experienced a reversal of the situation I mentioned above. My mother thought I wasn't feeling well because of the way I was acting - I was not quite myself. Out came her hand. No fever. "Are you sure you feel ok?" she asked. "Yes mother!" I responded as I did not want to miss out on my soccer game that day. Before I could blink, out came the dreaded flashlight! Next came the chicken soup!
God knows what a deceiver Satan can be. He masks himself like camouflage. He slithers right and in somehow he makes us think that what we are doing is ok. It feels good. It tastes good. It smells good.
We all need people in our lives that have a gift of discernment and a heart that loves us. Those who are able to recognize when we don't, the traps of darkness that are set around us. We all need good spiritual mother's! Mothers who are not afraid to shine a flashlight of God's word on our lives in order to expose the darkness and who are not afraid to hold us to the light of his truth.
God's word is better than chicken soup. Give your mom a hug today and say thanks!
